PBR Teams 2026: New York Records Reshape the Race to Las Vegas

Updated: Oct 20
Missouri Thunder secured the regular-season title, Texas Rattlers delivered one of the highest team scores in league history, and 79 qualified rides set a three-day event record. At Belmont Park on October 16–18, the numbers told a larger story about teamwork in a sport built on individual courage.

A remarkable three days in New York
At UBS Arena in Belmont Park, New York, the eleventh stop of the 2026 PBR Teams season brought the postseason into sharper focus. It also produced an extraordinary concentration of successful rides. According to Professional Bull Riders' official October 18 report, competitors completed 79 qualified rides across the weekend, the most ever recorded at a three-day PBR Teams event.
That distinction matters. It is a record for this league and event format, not an all-time record for every form of rodeo. A qualified bull ride requires the athlete to remain aboard for eight seconds and receive a score from the judges. Under the team format, individual rides become part of a five-rider collective effort.
The weekend also demonstrated a central truth about competitive sports: a historic performance does not automatically settle the championship. Missouri Thunder left New York as the confirmed regular-season champions, but the ultimate PBR Teams title will be decided in Las Vegas in November.
Missouri Thunder's five-for-five statement
On Saturday, October 17, Missouri defeated Austin Gamblers 437.65 to 352.25. All five Thunder riders posted qualified scores: Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (88.90), Julio Cesar Marques (88.50), Felipe Furlan (87.95), Macaulie Leather (85.70), and Maverick Smith (86.60). PBR identified it as the franchise's first perfect five-for-five game.
A perfect game is more than an impressive aggregate. Each athlete faces a different bull and a fresh eight-second challenge, with a single buckoff capable of changing the outcome. By converting every opportunity, Missouri removed that vulnerability at a decisive stage of its campaign.
The win secured a top-three seed and a first-round bye in the postseason. By the end of Sunday's action, the Thunder stood at 23 wins and nine losses, with the regular-season crown confirmed. That achievement rewards consistency over months of competition. It does not, however, guarantee success in the final championship bracket.
Texas Rattlers raise the bar even higher
Missouri's score was not the highest of Saturday night. Texas Rattlers also went five-for-five, defeating Nashville Stampede with 443.95 points. PBR reported that as the second-highest team score in league history, with Missouri's 437.65 ranking third.
Texas achieved its perfect game through Josh Frost, Daniel Keeping, Brady Fielder, João Ricardo Vieira, and Qynn Andersen. The performance shows how a team sitting lower in the season standings can still produce an exceptional result in a single head-to-head contest.
Two Australian riders played major roles: Brady Fielder earned 91.85 points, while Qynn Andersen scored 86. Brazilian veteran João Ricardo Vieira added 89.15. Their contributions are a reminder that a league based in the United States draws on an international pool of talent. Team names may reflect American places; the riders' journeys reach much farther.
How team bull riding changes the stakes
Once the gate opens, bull riding remains an individual confrontation between athlete and animal. But PBR Teams changes the framework around those eight seconds. Five riders represent a franchise, and each successful ride contributes to a collective score.
Coaches must consider lineups, rider availability, fatigue, and the order of competition. A strong opening ride can force the opposition to respond; a late conversion can decide the entire match. Spectators follow not only a rider's individual result but the changing possibilities for the team.
That should not be confused with a reduction in sporting difficulty. The same demands of balance, timing, technique, and determination remain. The team format alters strategy and storytelling, not the essential challenge of riding a powerful bull for eight seconds.
Twenty-nine rides in one night, 79 across the weekend
On October 17, athletes recorded 29 qualified rides from 50 attempts, a 58 percent conversion rate. PBR described the 29 as the highest single-day total in the history of its team league. Across all three days, the event reached 79 qualified rides, another league record for a three-day stop.
These figures should be interpreted carefully. They do not mean that every matchup was close or that all teams improved equally. They show an unusually high volume of successful performances across a complete program. That makes the weekend a meaningful benchmark, but not a reliable prediction of what will happen in Las Vegas.
Sunday underscored the point. Florida Freedom defeated Missouri Thunder, and the host New York Mavericks ended their homestand with a win over Texas Rattlers. Even teams responsible for Saturday's headline-making performances still had to face a new contest the following day.
The battle for the remaining byes
Missouri has locked up first place, but the standings behind it remain competitive. Following Belmont Park, Austin Gamblers and Carolina Cowboys were both 19-13, Nashville Stampede stood at 18-14, and Texas Rattlers at 16-16.
Under the PBR Teams postseason structure, the top three regular-season teams earn a first-round bye. Missouri has claimed one; the other two remain unsettled. The final regular-season stop is scheduled for Kansas City on October 23–25, followed by the PBR Teams Championship at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on November 6–8.
That sequence is crucial to understanding the news from New York. Historic scores may shape the season's memory, but they do not replace the work still ahead. Teams chasing favorable playoff positions must deliver again in Kansas City, while Missouri must eventually turn its regular-season advantage into postseason victories.
A league shaped by international riders
The riders behind Missouri's perfect game came from Brazil, Australia, and the United States. Texas' five-for-five lineup also brought together American, Brazilian, and Australian athletes. The international mix is not incidental to the sport's modern identity.
These competitors arrive through different training environments, national sporting traditions, and professional pathways. Their careers converge in a team league where the franchises represent American markets but the talent pool crosses borders.
Canada remains an important part of the wider North American rodeo world. However, attributing a particular role to Canadian riders in these specific record-setting games without supporting results would be misleading. The international presence clearly documented in the Belmont Park score sheets centers on the United States, Brazil, and Australia.
Why Las Vegas remains the real finish line
Belmont Park will be remembered for Missouri's first perfect game, Texas' exceptional total, and the 79 qualified rides that set a new benchmark for a three-day PBR Teams event. More importantly, it illustrated how a team competition can create collective tension while preserving the individual skill and uncertainty at the heart of bull riding.
Two facts must remain distinct: Missouri Thunder are the 2026 regular-season champions; the 2026 PBR Teams championship winner will be decided in Las Vegas in November. Kansas City must first determine which other teams receive the most favorable postseason positions.
Records can define a weekend. They cannot write the ending of a championship that has yet to be contested.
