The Country Weekly — October 5, 2026

October 5, 2026 edition. Period covered: September 28 through October 4, 2026, inclusive.
This international watch gives priority to the United States, Canada and Australia, then expands into Europe and specialist scenes. Every project’s country credentials were checked: a folk, soul, pop, roots or Americana label alone was not enough.
Three tracks to play first
An editorial selection from the bulletin, not an official ranking.

2. Miranda Lambert — Crisco: a committed meeting of Texas twang and a country-disco pulse. Listen on Spotify

Artists to discover
Key: 🔴 New discovery marks a documented first discographic journey or an explicitly identified new project. When experienced musicians form a new group, the marker refers to the project, not to beginners.
UNITED STATES
Carlisle Wright
Nashville, Tennessee
A young artist from a musical family, she champions traditional country shaped by honky-tonks and jukeboxes. Born In A Dive Bar arrived October 2; her path already includes several singles and a Grand Ole Opry debut, so she is not presented as a beginner.

Timmy McKeever
California
This young singer-songwriter puts breezy California country to work on Drove Her Away, released October 2. The track turns a breakup into a narrative play on words and continues an already-started career rather than serving as a first recording.

Payton Sullivan
Nashville, Tennessee
A developing artist and upcoming Sugarland support act, she combines country guitar, synths and a pop-disco pulse on F150, released October 2. The song previews a debut project still in development, but Sullivan had already released music, so no discographic-debut marker is applied.

Maddie Lenhart
rural Virginia / Nashville, Tennessee
A songwriter established in Nashville’s writing and performance circles, she released her debut EP Why in the World on October 2 after several singles. The project brings steel guitar, fiddle, traditional country storytelling and contemporary production together; a first EP is not the same as a first recording.

Ethan Setiawan & Fine Ground
Boston, Massachusetts
🔴 New discovery A new quintet led by already experienced mandolinist Ethan Setiawan: this is a new project, not a group of beginners. Its debut album Little Storms, released October 2, joins traditional bluegrass, contemporary writing and live-in-the-room ensemble playing.

Seneca Creek
Montgomery County, Maryland
Active for several years in the Washington region, Seneca Creek plays traditional mountain bluegrass inspired by the Stanley Brothers. Tiny Taters, released October 2, tells a family story of poverty and neighborly generosity over classic bluegrass instrumentation.

CANADA
Thelma & James
Canada / Nashville
🔴 New discovery A recent duo uniting Mackenzie Porter and Jake Etheridge, both already experienced artists: the marker identifies their new shared project. Following the Starting Over EP, Good By Now arrived October 2 in a breakup-centered alternative-country vein.

Hailey Benedict
Alberta / Nashville
A two-time CCMA winner already active at Canadian country radio, she remains a rising voice rather than a beginner. Chem History, released October 2, blends country-pop writing, humor and contemporary production.

AUSTRALIA
Zac & George
Australia
Active since 2022, the country duo reached the debut-album stage with Call It A Day on October 2. One Sip Away was the featured track at release; earlier singles mean the pair are not presented as beginners.

EUROPE
Chris Kläfford
Sweden
An established Swedish singer-songwriter, he explores a documented meeting of American country traditions and Nordic melancholy on Ain’t Built For Leaving, recorded in Nashville and Stockholm and released October 2. He is offered as an international discovery, not as a new artist.

Coverage and limitations
This edition includes 23 singles, 3 EPs and 11 albums, for 37 releases. It primarily covers the United States, Canada and Australia, with additional European coverage. The families actually explored include traditional and contemporary country, honky-tonk, country-rock, outlaw, country-pop, Texas country, gothic western, and traditional or progressive bluegrass. The Cajun, zydeco, western swing, old-time and country-gospel searches did not produce a sufficiently verified release within this window; that does not prove there were none.
This broad selection is not exhaustive. Clickable titles lead to factual sources. “Listen on Spotify” opens a verified direct page; “Search on Spotify” launches an artist-and-title search when the exact page was not confirmed. Flatland Cavalry’s expanded edition and The Chicks’ anniversary edition are identified as such and are not presented as wholly new albums.
